Shay Davis grew up an ambitious little girl in the suburbs of Philadelphia. As a kid, her favorite movie was Harriet the Spy and just like the clue finder Harriet, it was very seldom that you would catch Shay without a journal in her hands. The hood side of Philly didn't completely give Shay her "black card" because she was from the suburbs but because of her "hood affiliations", the suburbs didn't completely give her a pass either. The City of Brotherly Love gave birth to the alter ego "Eva Sherie" who began writing down intriguing urban stories in her journals for her friends. While Shay studied law books, to defend those who truly needed her services. Like a superhero living a double life, when the glasses come off Eva Sherie is responsible for the hood classics her readers craved but put the glasses on and Shay is keeping everything else under control.
"I think all authors are a little bit unstable in the head...I'm no different."
The creative writings from acclaimed author Sister Souljah layered the groundwork that cultivated the Shay and Eva saga we fell in love with. It wasn't just "The Coldest Winter Ever" that made the best seller her favorite author but the dynamic readings like the "Midnight" series and "A Deeper Love Inside" that brought Shay to place Sister Souljah ahead of many other talents. Now the author activist isn't the only creative Shay loves to follow and read. She laid out a list of literary geniuses that have blessed the keyboards of a laptop with their creative talents. Just to name a few of the Black Indie Authors she likes, we have Alexandria House, Endiya Carter, K. Renee, an author we recently interviewed Monica Walters and so many more.
"Having a favorite author is such a hard question to answer, and I don't want any of my author friends throwing me the side eye for not saying them because it's so many of them I absolutely love..."
Life itself is truly a driving force in what starts the creative juices to flow when it comes to Shay putting together a storyline. Shay's passion for writing was put on pause for a moment when life started, as she says, "started life'n". But when a pandemic along with the news of an upcoming blessed bundle of joy came around, it forced her to sit still and magic happened. It the midst of COVID-19, while everybody else was staying in place, Shay wrote and released her very first book in July of 2020, "Stay A Little Longer". Life continued its journey with her in the form of writing it all down and inspired story after story through her fingertips to the keyboard. A simple word or a mere phrase brought out a creative passion Shay couldn't hold back. She even stated one time that because of her studies in law that she wanted the first words to be said in a book she was writing to be "Objection!" From those simple 9 letters, her alter ego Eva created one of her most popular books "Held in Contempt".
"I want people to simply enjoy all of the tales of Black Love I write...So, to be known for creating dope fictitious worlds, would be an absolute dream come true."
As of now, Shay along with the diva Eva have collectively created 17 published works and she's far from stopping. She has two WIP as we speak and The River's Edge Writers can't wait to see what she is brewing in that gumbo pot. Just to give you a slight hint, the Abdi Family Clan is coming back for a book three and the Sandiego Wave series is getting its second installment. Right along with life inspiring her to write those "Black Love" stories, mellowing out to some soulful R&B help to motivate those erotic sex scenes Shay is known for. Now don't get it twisted the occasional blare of bass from some "Trap Music" bring out that ghettofabulousness her readers love from their "Queen of Black Love" too. The eloquent mix of the two has ultimately been what brought out some classics though.
As this author's catalog continues to grow, the level of storytelling continues to get better and better. And I gotta say, this one has outdone all the others!
Now if you haven't had the chance to dive into at least one of Shay's novels, first off "Shame on you" but you know we got you covered. Below you can find Shay Davis and Eva Sherie links to all of her books.
Meeting loyal fans of her books are an award giving joy Shay couldn't help but to express when she mentioned how she came across a front desk clerk at her mom's condo. Being the proud Mom her mother is she told the front desk clerk about her daughter and the clerk was already a fan. Shay showed up with a few signed copies and she was met with tears of joy. The author says meeting loyal readers is what push her to create newer works and with upcoming events around the corner, WIP's are definitely coming too. Shay looks like she's packing up a suitcase now because here's where she's heading now to meet a few of her fans.
